Chlorine hazard and Prevention

Chlorine is a toxic gas with a yellowish-green color and a strong irritating odor. It can cause sneezing, coughing, tearing, asphyxia and other symptoms. It mainly invades the human body through the respiratory tract and dissolves in the water contained in the mucosa, producing hypochlorite and hydrochloric acid, causing respiratory mucosal damage. Hypochlorite makes tissues strongly oxidized, hydrochloric acid stimulates mucosal inflammation, makes respiratory mucosal edema, secretes a large amount of mucus, causing breathing difficulties, so the obvious symptom of chlorine poisoning is severe cough. When the symptoms are severe, pulmonary edema will occur and eventually lead to death.

There are many uses of chlorine in modern chemistry. Chlorine is an important industrial raw material. Many chemical components contain chlorine, such as disinfectants commonly used in drinking water disinfection, some drugs, chemical fibers or plastics, which need chlorine as raw materials. In industry, chlorine gas is used to make bleaching products. There are many bleaching products made of chlorine gas, and bleaching liquor and bleaching powder are common in life. In the process of preservation, these products should be sealed and dried to avoid direct sunlight. Because hypochlorite reacts with carbon dioxide and water in the air to produce hypochlorite, which will decompose under light, leading to the failure of bleaching agent. Chlorine can also be used to prepare a variety of pesticides, carbon tetrachloride and other organic solvents, plastics, etc.

No matter how strong your body is, inhaling excessive chlorine can cause respiratory tract damage, severe pulmonary edema, and inappropriate rescue may cause asphyxia and death. But the harm of chlorine should also be preventable. Poisoning incidents caused by chlorine gas at home and abroad are mainly due to the following reasons: illegal operation; equipment maintenance and updating is not timely; chlorine production, storage, transportation and use links do not comply with safety operating procedures; human destruction. Any omission in any of the above links may cause serious accidents. Conversely, chlorine poisoning can be avoided if we can work strictly according to the regulations, operate regularly, repair regularly, update equipment parts on time and do not conceal hidden dangers. From these reasons, we can see that chlorine leakage is almost entirely caused by human factors.

Alphasense's two-year conventional electrochemical principle CL2-A1/B1 sensor, which is represented by Apollo Company, is specially used to detect CL2 gas leakage alarm. It has the characteristics of good stability, high sensitivity, fast response and high cost performance.

The main performance parameters are as follows:
1. Test range: 0-20 ppm
2. Sensitivity: -350-750nA/ppm
3. High resolution: 0.02ppm
4. T90 response time: <60s
5. Working environment: - 30-50 C, 10-90% RH
